Castles and Manor Houses

Our many castles and manor houses as well as the churches and monuments are architectural witnesses of civil and rural living culture in this region. They are historical relicts and thus a part of the history.

In earlier times the castles; being surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Middle Mecklenburg, served as recovery homes for princes or other aristocrats, whereas the manor houses reflected the way of living of upper rural classes.

Today these buildings are popular destinations not least because of the knowledge imparted. Here you will see where Mecklenburg's aristocrats lived and how they resided. You will also learn about the living standard of the major farmers and lords of the manor.
